The fourth sentence
In our unit we have a Hindi test for the men which they have to qualify for scaling up the ladder for their next rank from Lance corporal to corporal. The troops are mainly from Northern India with Sikhs especially from Punjab. Angrez singh was a driver who had to clear his long pending hindi test which he was not able to pass since last so many attempts so I got the directions from the higher ups to clear him this time as otherwise he would face financial loss in his pay and care should be taken that a proper easy test be conducted for him by me personally so that no one else raises any objection that partiality has been done. Accordingly I called him for the test and asked him simply to form four correct sentences of hindi and I will pass him. He asked me on what matter he should speak. I looked around on the ground and saw a cow over which a crow was sitting feeding on the insects moving on the back of the cow....Mutualism. I told him to say four sentences on that cow.
“OOOOO gaa hai.” ( That is a cow), he said with a Punjabi tinge
“OK granted one”, I said
“OOOOO kaa hai” (That is a crow) , he added making it two to his credit.
“ Kaa gaa ke upar hai,” (The crow is over the cow), he said confidently making it to three.
Now it was the final one for him and I was worried what he would say now which I could somehow manage to show as correct as it was going to make a lot of difference for his future was dependent on it. I heard the following from him as the last sentence
“Gaa kaa ke upar nahin hai” (The cow is not over the crow).
“Cheers! Angrez singh has passed hindi”, I shouted and everyone jumped around.
